ZMT Zurich MedTech Sponsors ESHO2015

ZMT Zurich MedTech AG Sponsors ESHO2015 - the 30th Annual Meeting of the European Society for Hyperthermic Oncology

ZMT Zurich MedTech AG was a sponsor of ESHO2015 – the 30th annual meeting of the European Society for Hyperthermic Oncology held June 24 – 26, 2015 in Aarau and Zurich. The congress, the flagship event of the European thermal cancer therapy community, was co-organized by the Kantonsspital Aarau and ZMT partner, the IT’IS Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society. The meeting started June 24 with an educational day at the Kantonsspital Aarau, followed by a visit to the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Zurich Animal Hospital. The conference continued on June 25 and 26 at Technopark in Zurich with plenary sessions on the biology and clinical applications of hyperthermia, and hyperthermia from physics and engineering perspectives, with emphasis on computational approaches to treatment planning and optimization.

The final day of the congress started with the ZMT Zurich MedTech Workshop, an industry symposium conducted by Wolfgang Wiedemair, ZMT application and sales engineer, who demonstrated a hyperthermia treatment simulation scenario in ZMT's Sim4Life computational life sciences platform. The success of a hyperthermia treatment depends critically on the positioning and configuration of the hyperthermia applicators to ensure an optimal exposure of the designated treatment region: the cutting-edge computational modeling capabilities of Sim4Life allow a treatment plan to be set up and simulated for realistic assessment of the predicted energy deposition and thermal distribution, enabling patient-specific optimization of the hyperthermia treatment configuration before treatment starts.

ZMT also sponsored one of the awards bestowed upon three young investigators singled out for their outstanding presentations of research results in the categories of biology, medicine, and physics. The award for the best paper in medicine was presented by Lars Bomholt, ZMT CEO, to Arlene Leonie Oei, a MSc student in the Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam, for her paper entitled "Hyperthermia: A targeted therapy in treating HPV-positive cervical carcinoma".
